Billie Jean King Cup 2024 in Malaga: Sound and Lighting by MEG
In November 2024 the Billie Jean King Cup, the women's world team championship in tennis, was played in Malaga, Spain. Malaga Event Gear (MEG) had two jobs there: we provided the sound during the matches of the tournament and, at the awards ceremony, we supplied the lighting and the sound.
This is a look back at an event that took place in November 2024.
Italy Won Its Fifth Title in Malaga
The 2024 final was played on the night of Wednesday 20 November 2024, and Italy won it. It was the fifth title for the Italian team, after those of 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013, and it came one year after the team had lost the 2023 final.
The team was captained by Tathiana Garbin and counted on Jasmine Paolini, Sara Errani and Lucia Bronzetti. At the ceremony on court, Billie Jean King herself helped Jasmine Paolini into the Billie Blue jacket that the champions receive.

Sound During the Matches
During the matches of the tournament, Malaga Event Gear provided the sound.
Sound for a match is a different job from sound for a conference room. In a meeting, one person speaks to people who sit still and listen. On a court, the sound has to reach players and spectators across a large open space, and it has to be there the moment it is needed and silent while a point is played.

Lighting and Sound for the Awards Ceremony
For the awards ceremony we supplied the lighting and the sound. A ceremony changes what the equipment is for: the match is over, the teams and the officials gather on court, and the stage has to be lit and heard by everyone watching.
What Was Ours and What Was Not
A ceremony like this one is the work of more than one supplier, and the photos show more than our part. To be plain about it:
Ours: the sound during the matches of the tournament, and the lighting and the sound at the awards ceremony.
Not ours: the confetti and the fireworks seen in the photos were not supplied by Malaga Event Gear.
